Ilion is one of the west suburbs of Athens. The municipality of Ilion has a population over 84.000 people and is a 9.250 acres area. The modern history of the city, begins in 1858 after the foundation of the Ilion Troas settlements, as historians of the time were placing there, the ancient municipality of Troy. Later, wealthy citizens of Athens moved to Ilion and bought big lands in the area. At that period the area is being renamed to Kato Liosia, and at the end of the 19th century the name changes to Nea Liosia. Today, Ilion is a municipality with modern cultural, natural and sports facilities. Residents and visitors go on numerous parks of the area to spend their free time.Cyclists can move easily as there is a cycle path that begins at Hasias avenue and ends at the city hall. People can enjoy shopping in a lot of interesting shops and enjoy their coffee in the pedestrianized streets and at the neighborhoods of the city.
